Over and above the water sports activities that are enjoyed on Lake Wentworth as well as nearby Lake Winnipesaukee, there are many other opportunities in the surrounding areas for entertainment and pastime pleasures.
There are four museums in Wolfeboro: The Clark House Historical Society Museum complex; The Antique Boat Museum; The Wright Museum with displays of World War II memorabilia; and the Libby Museum of Natural History.
There is the Wolfeboro Outdoor Folk Festival, held near the Wolfeboro docks at Cate Park Band Stand, twice weekly where people can enjoy music being performed by local bands and performers.
We have Summer Concerts sponsored by the Great Waters Music Festival.
There are the Meadowbrook Concerts and Shows held in Lakeport, NH, which is a 35 minute drive from Summerhawk Cottages; the Barnstormers Summer Theater in Tamworth, NH, just a 20 minute drive; the Meredith, NH Summer Theater, a 45 minute drive; and the Ogunquit Summer Theater where delightful Broadway plays are performed by talented, and sometimes famous, actors throughout the summer, just an hour and 10 minutes from here.
There are Antique Boat shows and races that one can observe from the Wolfeboro docks and Antique Car shows, then there are the Antique shows themselves. Wolfeboro presents several Arts and Crafts Shows in downtown areas, easily accessible if this interests you.
If you like antiques, bargains and excitement, each Saturday evening, most of the year, Gary Wallace Auctioneers have been conducting auctions at their Gallery on Route 16, in Ossipee, NH for over 20 years. These auctions feature mostly fresh New England area estate merchandise. The Gallery is 15 minutes from Summerhawk Cottages and promises a fun night out for those people who love a bargain. Check out his website at WallaceAuctions.com for more information.
In the fall, when the spectacular presentation of foliage here in the Northeast is at it's peak, a leisurely drive through the White Mountains, camera in hand, is highly recommended. You will be invigorated by the crisp mountain air, the breathtaking scenery, the plethora of color spread across the canvas of forests, mountains and valleys. The mountains offer many areas where you can hike and climb if this is your "thing". When you return to SUMMERHAWK from your daily journeys, the opportunity for a cozy fire awaits in your cottage as the sun sets over the lake reflecting not only it's unique beauty, but the delightful color of the surrounding deciduous trees as well, perhaps even a sailboat, lingering on the lake, throughout the fall season.
In each cottage there is a notebook that welcomes you to Summerhawk Lakeside Cottages. This notebook contains timely brochures and information on nearby amusement places, mountain slides, zip lines, Polar Caves exploration and many others. It also has helpful information regarding restaurants, grocery shopping, local hospital contact data as well as information about our facility here.
As the hosts here, we are available to help answer any questions or to assist with directions should the need arise.
